Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm

I just bought a share of the Spring 2009 shearing at Martha's Vineyard Fiber Farm. It's the first fiber-based CSA (community-supported agriculture) in the United States.

Meet Hilary, my protégé

This is my friend Hilary. I'm teaching her to knit. She's very good at it. The hat is her first completed project.

Dag. She's wearing that scarf I made.

Scarf for Hilary

I made this scarf and my friend Hilary liked it, so I gave it to her. I wanted to trim off the dangly bits, but she wouldn't let me.

Antique

This is a suture sampler from the The Medical History Museum of the University of Zurich. Who knew there were so many ways of stitching up a wound, and that different methods are recommended for different areas of the body? Besides doctors from whenever this was made, I mean.

The image is from Ickybitty's photostream. You can see a very large and detailed copy here.
Thanks, Tara!

Two of my favorite things

Though most of you will have already seen these, I feel compelled to link to these awesome knitted Shaun of the Dead dolls.

I just looked at them again today, and, truly, I am humbled.

Katie tries something new

This is my first attempt at freeform knitting/crochet. It's a work in progress. Because it's freeform, I have no idea how I'll know when it's finished.

Puncetto Valsesiano

This video is rather long, but if you're into needlework at all, I recommend watching the whole thing. You'll be rewarded with wonder and amazement.

My observations:

  1. By candlelight? Good God.
  2. I can't believe she never shoved that needle right into her finger. I would have, several times.
  3. I really want to learn how to do this.

Hat

Here's my sister wearing a hat I made. It's pretty much the swatch hat from EZ's "Knitting Workshop".

Baby Elisabeth is not wearing a hat. Not because I haven't made her one, but because I misjudged the size and she's still too little for it.

Hedgie

Hedgie was a gift for James. I have a blue one knitted and felted for my little cousin Thomas, too, but because I so detest sewing, it's just the shell of a hedgehog, lying limply in my knitting basket, waiting for stuffing and a face.

Bear suit

I made this bear suit for my nephew, James (not a recent photo; he's three and a half now, but I can't resist posting this because, well, jeez, LOOK at him):

The pattern is from "Nursery Knits" by Debbie Bliss.

Scarves ad nauseam

Here are some scarves I've knit, which hang around my house, not being worn:

Here is one scarf in particular, which I gave to my friend Tara (and I've even seen her wear it, bless her heart):
